Exploring the complexities of the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, Onoso Imoagene reveals how it offers opportunities for many immigrants while simultaneously fostering exploitation and challenges. Through interviews and ethnographic research in Ghana and Nigeria, the author highlights the disparities in access to the lottery and the burdensome application process that often leads to the rise of visa entrepreneurs. Despite their legal status, immigrants face obstacles in education and social support. Imoagene advocates for U.S. policy reforms to better integrate these individuals into society.
