Focusing on the emergence of antibiotic-resistant gonococcal infections, this research highlights the establishment of the National Reference Laboratory of Pathogenic Neisserias in Cuba and its involvement in a regional surveillance program. Utilizing contemporary molecular markers, the study identified key transmission groups and proposed new treatment alternatives for gonorrhea. Its significant findings have been published in prestigious journals and recognized with multiple awards, including the National Prize from the Cuban Academy of Science, underscoring its impact on public health.
