After race riots in the 1960s, many residents began to flee the inner-city, leading to the large-scale abandonment of buildings and neighborhoods. The city lost seventeen percent of its population between 2000 and 2010, earning the title of "poorest major city in America" during that time. Foreclosures, closing businesses, and crime led to over 120,000 abandoned structures across the surrounding area. This is where Abandoned Cleveland picks up the story.
