Design of Crystal Structures Using Hydrogen Bonds on Molecular-Layered Cocrystals and ProtonElectron Mixed Conductor

Viac o knihe

This thesis explores the design of crystal structures utilizing hydrogen bonds, emphasizing the creation of functionalities and control over molecular assembly packing through molecular designs. It begins with the synthesis and evaluation of a proton-electron mixed conducting charge transfer salt. By examining the strength of hydrogen bonds versus weaker intermolecular interactions, a system was developed where electron-conducting molecular wires are encapsulated in a proton-conducting matrix. The research then investigates structural phase transitions in a cocrystal made of hydrogen-bonded two-dimensional molecular assemblies, highlighting significant rearrangements that lead to single-crystal-to-single-crystal phase transitions and anisotropic changes in crystal shape. Additionally, the thesis discusses the chemical modification of a component molecule in the cocrystal, which allows for control over the stacking patterns of the two-dimensional molecular assemblies, considering intermolecular interactions and molecular motion. The findings suggest that hydrogen bonds are advantageous for constructing molecular assemblies in crystals due to their strength and directionality, while also noting that weaker intermolecular interactions can facilitate the design of entire crystal structures and functionalities. This work provides valuable insights for students and researchers in solid-state chemistry, offering various methods for c
