A Boring Dystopia

In 2020, I found myself unable to engage in my usual street photography due to restrictions. After two months of frustration, I began driving around my local area, capturing images through the driver’s side window. I aimed to photograph the familiar landscape surrounding my home, which many Americans would recognize: strip malls, stroads, fast food, power lines, flags, and cars. Over three years, I shot and developed 50 rolls of Fujifilm Provia slide film in both 35mm and 120 formats. As I reviewed the photos, recurring themes emerged, reflecting the inhumanity ingrained in our society, driven by a relentless pursuit of profit for the powerful, often at the expense of the public good. While I dislike the bleakness of these images, they represent my perspective on American society today. This collection is not intended as art but as a record of our current reality. I hope it inspires viewers to advocate for a more human-centered society. Remember, our most significant powers lie in how we vote at the ballot box and with our wallets.
