Lyrická próza Prorok (The Prophet) od Chalíla Džibrána je jedným z najpôvabnejších a najčítanejších klenotov svetovej literatúry. Výsostně básnivým jazykem s orientální imaginací v nich podává prostá, ale nápaditá podobenství životních hodnot, významu fantazie a tvorby, lásky ke světu i lidem, kontemplace a smíření. K tomu mu často slouží zvířecí hrdinové, pohádkové postavy dávných králů či proroků, nechává promlouvat ale i například čistý list papíru. Citáty z Džibránova díla ukazují snahu o propojení Východu a Západu, touhu po vnitřní svobodě člověka. Ve svých úvahách se zasazuje i za osvobození ženy a zabývá se vztahem ženy a muže. Milovníci Džibránova díla jistě nebudou tímto výborem z jeho myšlenek zklamáni.
