This work takes a nostalgic look at the airfields used by the USAAF in the United Kingdom during the World War II. Conceived in war, the airfields experienced their moments of glory and, when the war ended, were left empty and derelict to die.

It's larger and better than ever, substantially revised with almost 200 additional, previously unseen World War Two color photos--more color aviation photos than have ever before appeared in one place! Mostly taken by members of "Mighty" Eighth Air Force, this wonderful selection portrays the American aircraft and their crews deployed to Britain in 1942. With detailed explanatory captions throughout, this is an outstanding effort, gloriously recording the Royal Air Force operations of World War Two in rare colour images never before assembled in such numbers, and of such quality. The photographs presented, many taken by US servicemen who had casier access to colour film, attempt as thorough a coverage of RAF machines and personnel as possible.

The true character of such a long-serving aircraft cannot be deduced from its technical specifications, and this classic account draws on many first-hand experiences of those who actually flew the plane.
