    Robert C. Solomon sa hlboko ponoril do kontinentálnej filozofie, najmä 19. a 20. storočia. Jeho práca sa zamerala na témy ako etika a filozofia emócií, pričom rozvinul kognitivistickú teóriu emócií, ktorá ich považuje za racionálne hodnotené a upraviteľné. Solomon skúmal koncept lásky a argumentoval, že romantická láska je kultúrny konštrukt skôr než univerzálny stav. Jeho prednášky, často o Nietzschovi a existencializme, zdôrazňovali osobnú reflexiu a schopnosť prijať celý rozsah ľudskej existencie.
