The Prince is considered one of the first works of modern political philosophy. It formulates the modern principles of the raison d'état, detached from moral and religious ideas. Together with the Discorsi, which were written at the same time, it represents Macchiavelli's main work. From it derives both the concept of Machiavellianism and that of anti-Machiavellianism.
