This textbook focuses on developing students' analytical and translation skills in Arabic as well as reading, writing, listening, and speaking, by stematically introducing them to authentic advanced media Arabic texts. It emphasizes the semantic and stylistic aspects of media Arabic rather than its grammar. Organized by topic, it guides students through the vocabulary needed and understanding the language in context, exercises for reading comprehension, writing, translation, and listening, and discussion and debate. The authentic media, both text and audio, cover the following ten themes: Diplomacy, elections, trade and industry, violence and disorder, law and order, economy, war and military action, natural disasters, the "War onTerrorism," and Arabic television talk shows.
