Yesterday, the Star Kingdom of Manticore was a small, unimportant interstellar backwater, recently recovering from the Plague Years. Affluent yet lacking in trade appeal, it had little need for a navy and even less interest in funding one. However, Manticore has now become a target, facing an unknown aggressor. Queen Elizabeth I understands the urgency of discovering the enemy's motives and recognizes the necessity of a navy for her kingdom. Manticore also requires allies like the Republic of Haven and the Andermani Empire to bolster its trade and military expertise. Officers such as Travis Long and his wife, Lisa, are tasked with gaining that experience, while Travis's brother, Gavin, Earl Winterfall, must forge essential alliances as a novice diplomat. They are dispatched to the Andermani Empire, home to one of the galaxy's most formidable navies. Yet, upon arrival, they find the Andermani embroiled in civil war following the Emperor's death, complicating their mission. Caught in the midst of turmoil, Travis, Lisa, and Gavin must navigate these challenges and ensure their survival before they can achieve their goals.
