Ty Seidule grew up idolizing Robert E. Lee, shaped by a Southern upbringing and military service that reinforced the Lost Cause myth, portraying Lee as a noble figure and Confederates as honorable underdogs. However, as a retired brigadier general and Professor Emeritus of History at West Point, his perspective has transformed. Seidule now argues that American history requires a reckoning. In a compelling mix of historical analysis and personal reflection, he reveals the Confederacy's primary objective: the subjugation and enslavement of Black Americans.
