From its landscapes, industry and wildlife to its towns and cities, Ontario is rich in history, diverse in its peoples and has much to offer anyone living in, or visiting this magical province. Many people living in Ontario today are descendants of British and other Europeans who settled in the province. Over the past two centuries, immigrants have continued to flock to the area but it was very different in the early days when the land was originally populated by two peoples; the Algonquians (made up of Ojibwa, Algonquin and Cree tribes) and the Iroquoians, who consisted of Iroquois and Huron tribes.
