On New Year's Eve 2009, Gerhard Richter and Alexander Kluge come together at the "Waldhaus" hotel in Sils Maria (Engadin) for a collaboration. Richter captures the December landscape of the Graubünden high mountains in 39 color photographs. Kluge juxtaposes his texts with these contemplative images, exploring the phenomenon of December. This book features 39 images and 39 calendar stories, along with a coda that presents subversive moralities and lessons from history, challenging the notion of December as a month of innocent childhood allure, which can be fatal for global, national, and personal histories year after year.
