After a traumatic experience in Africa, Red Cross nurse Vera Michailov returns home to Paris on medical leave, where she clears up lingering affairs after her estranged father's death. However, her return triggers a stunning revelation from her father's Gypsy friends: Vera learns that she has a twin brother, Kolya. Originally born attached at the hand, the Siamese twins were separated in every sense. Vera becomes consumed with finding Kolya, as she scours the far corners of the world. Her increasingly obsessional quest turns deadly when it emerges Kolya is a pirate.
