Kira Bennett's earliest memories are of living alone in the woods, with no recollection of how long she survived there. Her life changes when Cady Bennett and her search-and-rescue dog find her, leading to her adoption into the Bennett family. Despite her struggles with human interaction, Kira thrives in the family’s search-and-rescue business. Alongside Cady's son, Jude, and their neighbor, Free, she trains elite search-and-rescue dogs, hoping to use her skills to find the lost. When Cady's estranged father, Bales Bennett, reaches out for help in locating a missing child in Sierra Glades National Park—where several visitors have disappeared in the past year—the teens are thrust into action. As they search through vast wilderness, Kira becomes fixated on finding the child, drawing on her own experiences of being lost and alone. However, the case proves complex, revealing more than just a missing girl. As danger escalates and family secrets emerge, Kira is compelled to confront her past and reassess her understanding of her adopted family and her true identity.
