Three years ago, authorities believed the Albright family had fled to escape embezzlement charges. However, after their remains are discovered post-storm, the FBI is called to investigate, only to find the youngest child's body missing. If the child is dead, why wasn't he found with his family? If alive, where has he been for three years? FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid and her partner Nate face a challenging cold case with little assistance from the original investigators. Lacking forensic evidence and witnesses, they rely on a small clue—the timeline of the family's last day—to piece together the events leading to their deaths. Meanwhile, investigative reporter Maxine Revere arrives in San Antonio to look into another case involving a recanted confession about a family friend's murder. She hires Sean Rogan, a private investigator and Lucy's husband, to help her uncover the truth about Victoria. As Max discovers that Victoria had connections to Lucy's victims, she uncovers a deadly conspiracy. Lucy, Max, and Sean must collaborate to seek justice for both families while delving into corporate embezzlement, high-stakes gambling, and multi-million-dollar land deals. They soon realize that many involved have secrets worth killing for—and one of them may be the next target.
