Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, an unlikely pioneer of human flight, emerges from the Wurrtemburg nobility, recently dismissed from the German military. He believes a flying machine could restore his military reputation but instead creates a groundbreaking system of flight and a lasting airship business. By the early 20th century, his name becomes synonymous with airships, overshadowing even the Wright brothers, who are developing their technology concurrently. As Zeppelin ages, he entrusts his company to Hugo Eckener, his partner and a savvy publicist with a vision of connecting the world through air travel. Eckener navigates the Zeppelin Company through the turmoil of World War I and Germany's struggles, aiming to establish the first Atlantic airline route. However, he faces fierce competition from Juan Trippe of Pan American, both vying for the lucrative London-New York route. Their journeys take them around the globe, refining their machines and business models. The race culminates in the Hindenburg disaster and the looming threat of another world war, marking the end of the airship era. This narrative captures the birth of the aviation age, detailing the fierce competition that shaped the modern world.
