In this near future, humanity's intellect and technology are tested against a godlike being billions of years old. Dr. Benjamin Knowlton leads a prestigious research facility focused on astronomical data interpretation. However, when an encoded message from the black hole, dubbed the Eater, indicates it is alive and intelligent, excitement turns to apprehension.
