Focusing on spatial inequalities, this work challenges existing literature by highlighting how regional cleavages influence national politics in African countries. It argues that territorial institutions play a crucial role in electoral competition and policy debates surrounding redistribution and market integration. By leveraging comparative politics theory, the author draws parallels between Africa's core-periphery tensions and similar dynamics in other regions, providing a fresh perspective on political competition and economic integration across the continent.
