Excerpt from Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases: Classified and Arranged So as to Facilitate the Expression of Ideas and Assist in Literary Composition. The first edition of Dr. Roget's Thesaurus was published in 1852, followed by a second in the spring of the next year. The third edition, released in 1855, was the first to be stereotyped. Since then, the work has been reprinted with minimal changes, leading to the wear of the original printing plates. In the later years of his life, which ended in September 1869, the author focused on gathering additional words and phrases for an expanded edition he had envisioned. Unfortunately, he did not complete this project, and it fell to me, his son, to fulfill his intention. About the Publisher: Forgotten Books publishes numerous rare and classic works.
