Ethel M. Dell, a prolific British romance novelist, wrote over 30 novels and numerous short stories between 1911 and 1939, often set against the backdrop of the British Raj and colonial territories. Born in London to a middle-class family, she began her writing career early, with many of her works published in popular magazines. Her narratives were known for their romantic themes and were sometimes deemed overly sexual, leading to playful scrutiny from her family regarding her choice of language.
