Valarie Garibaldi, a cancer survivor and aspiring detective, aims to honor her father's legacy by joining the Homicide Unit in Ft. Lauderdale. At just twenty-six, she partners with seasoned Detective Deesay Becerra, and their first case involves a macaw stuffed with diamonds and a murdered hooker filled with heroin balloons. As the investigation escalates with the murders of two Miami Dolphins players, the duo faces mounting pressure, ultimately resorting to using a suspect as bait to catch the killer.
