The book delves into the significant role of anthologies, particularly in the young adult (YA) genre, as vehicles for inclusion and representation of marginalized voices in publishing. Through a case study of the 2017 anthology A Change Is Gonna Come, it highlights how such collections not only showcase diverse narratives but also foster community among Black and Brown authors. The work argues that these anthologies serve as a form of literary activism, enabling authors to navigate publishing barriers while developing both individual and collective identities.
