Jack London, a Bay Area native, began working at just 13 and briefly attended the University of California, Berkeley before pursuing gold prospecting in the Yukon. His return marked the start of a prolific literary career, during which he produced a diverse array of works, including short stories, novels, essays, poetry, journalism, and memoirs, until his death in 1916.
