The book explores the influence of authoritarianism on the politics of the North Korean diaspora, a newly emerging global community of North Korean émigrés. It highlights how the DPRK regime views this diaspora as a security threat, leading to efforts to undermine their political activities. As a result, North Korean émigrés adopt host country norms, particularly regarding democratic citizenship, and actively engage in both local and global political spheres. This work offers new insights into the intersection of regime type and diaspora politics, enhancing the understanding of comparative authoritarianism's effects worldwide.
