Set against the backdrop of rural South Georgia during the Great Depression, the story follows widow Maggie Parker as she struggles to maintain her grocery store and protect her son from her threatening father-in-law. Faced with financial hardships and the looming threat of losing everything, Maggie finds solidarity with four other Southern women. Together, they harness their collective wisdom and resourcefulness to confront challenges and fight for their survival in a time of crisis.
