Set in eighteenth-century England, the story follows thirteen-year-old Ned Carter, a coal miner determined to save his younger brother Pip from a similar fate. As Pip approaches the age when he could be forced into the mines, an accident leaves Ned unable to earn money, leading to Pip being sold to become a chimney sweep. With time running out and Pip missing, Ned embarks on a desperate quest to rescue him, grappling with the challenges of raising ransom money and seeking help from the preacher John Wesley.
