Residing at the meeting point of social justice and spirituality, Colin Greer's third collected work of poetry, Defeat/No Surrender, is a tribute to his late friend, and spiritual teacher, Dr. Jerry Epstein, founder of the American Institute for Mental Imagery (AIMI). Following in a long spiritual tradition that premises ethical relationships as the foundation for connection to God and the key to collective liberation, Greer's poems explore our longing for unity and the injustices that keep us divided. Mixing past and present in a collage of rich imagery, Defeat/No Surrender asks us to hold up a mirror to ourselves and our crumbling communities, and implores us to imagine new worlds beyond survival, where new ways of loving individually and collectively can make us free. Colin Greer is president of the New World Foundation which supports activism and advocacy on behalf of the environment, democracy, and community power-building.
