In the strange and magical world of the Middle Realms, diverse races inhabit the lands, including humans, elves, and dwarves. At the extremes of this spectrum are seraphs and demons—one exalted, the other feared. The various groups aspire to the purity and love associated with angels, but much of what is known about them is based on teachings rather than experience. This leads to a belief that individuals can only be good or bad, disregarding the complexities in between. Dacitrynn, a crossbreed of an angel and a demon, faces rejection in a world that forbids his existence. After a violent altercation with his stepbrother results in his banishment from the High Lands, he finds himself in a society that proves equally, if not more, cruel. As he navigates his new reality, Dacitrynn grapples with feelings of hopelessness and the haunting questions of whether a being like him has a place in the world and what purpose his existence might serve.
