Cheddar is a kitten adopted a year ago and has never been outside. As he looks out the window he wants to fly like the birds, climb like the squirrels, and go where the people go. One day the door is left open, and he gets his chance. But he quickly finds that the outside is scarier than it looks as he has a run-in with a trash can, a dog chases him, a squirrel yells at him, and the tree limb breaks. The dog still chases him to a nearby porch, where a man saves him. But It's only ending up back at the animal shelter; that is the worst fear! However, he finds his mother and sister, and his microchip tells his family where to find him. Along the way, his guardian angel, a sparkly pink mouse named Sparkles, comforts him when he is scared and feels alone until his family finds him.
