Graduate student Jeremy Freirs, cynical yet prone to daydreams, seeks to lose weight and catch up on Gothic literature in the secluded village of Gilead, New Jersey. Just 90 minutes from Manhattan, Gilead feels like a step back in time with its antique customs. However, he harbors a sinister secret, known as the Old One. Unbeknownst to the villagers, he is aware of the invisible forces shaping their lives as they unknowingly move toward disaster. An ancient corruption stirs in the summer heat, threatening to unleash the Ceremonies—monstrous rites that promise devastation. As the plot unfolds like a deadly flower, a nightmare emerges, revealing the dark fate awaiting the unsuspecting community.
