Nothing Ventured marks the beginning of a new series featuring Detective William Warwick, focusing on his journey to becoming a detective rather than a traditional detective story. After university, William embarks on a career in the Metropolitan Police, starting with his early days on the beat under Constable Fred Yates. His first major case involves the theft of a priceless Rembrandt from the Fitzmolean Museum, where he meets Beth Rainsford, a research assistant with whom he falls deeply in love, unaware of her hidden secret. As William investigates the missing painting, he encounters the charming art collector Miles Faulkner and his cunning lawyer, Booth Watson QC, who will go to great lengths to evade justice. Meanwhile, Miles's wife, Christina, forms a friendship with William, raising questions about her true loyalties. This series introduces William Warwick as a dedicated family man and detective, destined to confront a formidable criminal adversary throughout his career, showcasing his journey filled with twists, triumphs, and tragedies.
