Set in a future England dominated by a peculiar form of "Progressive" Islam, the narrative explores the consequences of a stringent temperance movement that restricts alcohol sales to the poor. The story follows Humphrey Pumph and Captain Patrick Dalroy as they travel in a cart with a barrel of rum, cleverly navigating Prohibition laws. Their escapades lead them to confront and ultimately thwart an attempted coup by an Islamic military force, blending elements of adventure and social commentary.
