Peter Blood, an Irish physician and soldier in 1680s England, is wrongfully convicted of treason and sentenced to ten years of indentured slavery in the Caribbean. While serving his sentence, he saves a man's life, only to discover that the man is a rebel, leading to his harsh punishment. In the Caribbean, Blood's medical skills are recognized, and he falls in love with the daughter of his master, complicating their relationship. When a Spanish ship attacks, he seizes the opportunity to escape by stealing their vessel, becoming a notorious pirate on the Spanish Main alongside fellow convicts.
