Los Angeles, a city of sunlight and celebrity, reveals a darker side to Homicide Lt. Detective Milo Sturgis and psychologist Alex Delaware. One morning, they stumble upon a shocking scene in a seemingly idyllic neighborhood: a naked young man lies dead in the street, apparently the victim of a hit-and-run. However, the discovery of a blood trail leading to a nearby home suggests a more sinister scenario. Inside, they find a young woman brutally murdered. The identity of the male victim remains a mystery, but the woman, Cordelia Gannett, raises further questions. Alex recognizes her from a complicated child custody case. Gannett, a self-styled internet influencer, had previously misrepresented herself as a psychologist and continued her online career despite legal troubles. As Alex and Milo dig deeper, they uncover Gannett's troubled relationships, a painful family history, and a questionable past.
