The story follows Sid Halley, a private investigator recovering from a hand transplant, who is drawn into a dark conspiracy in the world of British horse racing. After receiving death threats, Sid's friend, an ex-jockey trainer, reaches out for help, but tragedy strikes when the friend's stable is burned down and he is found dead. Convinced it’s more than suicide, Sid battles his own personal issues, including a troubled marriage, as he delves deeper into the investigation, uncovering threats to the sport's integrity.
