In Nazi-occupied Paris, a talented artisan must navigate perilous circumstances by designing for her enemies. Capucine Benoit works with her father to create exquisite fans for haute couture fashion houses. However, after the German invasion in June 1940, their focus shifts to survival when they are betrayed and arrested due to her father's political beliefs. To escape deportation to Auschwitz, Capucine leverages her connections to Parisian design houses, landing in a little-known prison camp within the Lévitan department store. There, she and other prisoners sort through looted art and goods from Jewish homes, forced to endure the whims of German officials and their associates. Capucine clings to memories of happier times in Montmartre's art salons and jazz clubs. Meanwhile, her estranged daughter, Mathilde, lives with her conservative grandparents, who thrive under Nazi rule. After her mother’s arrest and a friend's disappearance, Mathilde is drawn into the world of Paris's Resistance fighters, challenging her previous beliefs and perceptions of her mother. An unexpected encounter with an old acquaintance, who offers to help Capucine reconnect with Mathilde, presents both hope and danger, highlighting the complexities of survival and the bonds of family amidst chaos.
