Startling information about the origin of Christianity is secreted out of Jerusalem after its fall in 70 AD. It reaches the last great pagan philosopher, Hypatia of Alexandria, and is smuggled out of Egypt on the day of her murder. Centuries later, clues to the First Heresy are revealed in Ireland to Cormac, a Norman youth, and his mentor, a retired Templar knight. Meanwhile, in Paris, Esi, a scholar of Persian descent, is drawn into the unfolding events. The First Heresy sets in motion a brutal clash between Church and State, and a race across medieval France and Ireland, as the small group led by Esi is hunted by the army of King Philip IV – the most powerful in Europe.
