In this gripping debut of a new series, we meet 28-year-old Detective Inspector Embla Nystrom, who has battled chronic nightmares and racing thoughts since childhood. Excited for a break from her high-stress job, she joins her family and friends for the annual moose hunt in rural Dalsland. However, her vacation takes a turn when she encounters Peter, an enigmatic newcomer to the group. His arrival raises eyebrows, especially since one veteran hunter warns that the group's number now stands at thirteen—a bad omen. Tension escalates as unsettling events unfold, leading to the mysterious disappearance of two men from a neighboring hunting party. When one of the missing hunters is discovered dead in a nearby lake, Embla is thrust into the role of investigator.
