The story follows Jeremy Garnet, an English author seeking solitude to finish his novel, but his plans are disrupted by his old friend Ukridge and his new wife, Millie. They lure him into a chaotic venture involving a chicken farm in Dorset, which quickly turns into a comedic struggle. Amid the chaos of managing the farm and chasing runaway chickens, Garnet discovers his love for Phyllis, the intelligent girl next door. To win her heart, he must navigate her father's disapproval and outmaneuver a rival suitor.
