In a nameless desert in the American Southwest, Night Vale is a town where the extraordinary is ordinary, featuring ghosts, angels, aliens, and government conspiracies. Here, two women's lives and mysteries intersect. Jackie Fierro, a nineteen-year-old pawn shop owner, receives a paper marked "KING CITY" from a mysterious man in a tan jacket with a deer skin suitcase. This unsettling encounter leaves her unable to rid herself of the paper, and no one seems to remember the man. Determined to solve the mystery of King City and the man, Jackie feels her grip on reality slipping. Meanwhile, Diane Crayton, the PTA treasurer, grapples with her moody shape-shifting son, Josh, who is increasingly fixated on his estranged father. Diane begins to see her son's father everywhere, unchanged since their teenage years, while Josh's shifting appearances complicate their relationship. As Diane seeks to reconnect with her son, both women find their paths converging on the elusive King City, which holds the answers to their mysteries and the potential to reshape their futures—if they can find it.
