Based on a real duck owned by Potter at her farm, Hill Top, the story also features her sheepdog, Kep, who heroically saves Jemima from her impending fate. Beatrix Potter is celebrated as one of the most beloved children's authors, having created a series of enchanting stories featuring memorable animal characters like Mrs. Tiggy-winkle and Tom Kitten. Her delightful narratives and exquisite illustrations have become cherished parts of childhood. With the proceeds from her books, Potter purchased Hill Top in the Lake District, where she became a farmer and prize-winning sheep breeder. She pioneered a successful merchandise line, beginning with the first Peter Rabbit doll in 1903, which has expanded into a global range of products. Upon her passing, she bequeathed 14 farms and over 4,000 acres of Lake District land to the National Trust, ensuring its preservation for future generations. The original 23 tales continue to be published, with "The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck" being the ninth in the series.
