Diana O'Toole has her life meticulously planned: marriage by thirty, kids by thirty-five, and a successful career in the competitive art auction world. As an associate specialist at Sotheby's, she's on the brink of a promotion, especially with her boyfriend Finn, a surgical resident, expected to propose during their romantic getaway to the Galapagos just before her thirtieth birthday. However, a virus has emerged, and on the eve of their trip, Finn must stay behind to help at the hospital. He encourages her to go alone, not wanting their nonrefundable vacation to be wasted. Reluctantly, she embarks on the journey, but it quickly unravels. Her luggage is lost, Wi-Fi is scarce, and their hotel is closed due to the pandemic, leaving her stranded on a quarantined island. Isolated and out of her comfort zone, Diana begins to connect with a local family, particularly a teenager with a secret, despite the father's wariness of outsiders. In the Galapagos, where Darwin's theories were born, Diana reflects on her relationships and choices, questioning if she will return home transformed into someone new.
