The study explores the Mpemba effect in a colloidal system, revealing that an initially hot particle can cool faster than a warm one. Using feedback-based optical tweezers, the author demonstrates this counterintuitive phenomenon and introduces the inverse Mpemba effect, where the colder sample reaches thermal equilibrium at a higher temperature first. Both effects align with theoretical predictions from the Fokker-Planck equation, showcasing that under specific conditions, systems can relax to bath temperature significantly faster than usual.
