Mariniho opus magnum, tak označil knihu Jim Lee, nynější prezident amerického vydavatelství DC Comics. A je to asi to úplně nejvýstižnější, co se dá o této knize napsat. Nebál bych se dokonce říct, že to byl jeden z nejlepších Batman komiksů, co jsem kdy četl. Když to vezmeme hezky popořadě, můžeme začít třeba u scénáře. Ten je vlastně skvěle napsaný, vzhledem k tomu, že Marini se primárně věnuje kresbě. Noirový, řekněme detektivní příběh o únosu a potenciálním otcovství unesené dívky, byl promyšlený do posledního detailu. Jen Joker tu byl místy až dobrácký (na svoje poměry). Harley se mi naopak zdála zbytečně upozaděná a v příběhu na mě působila jako naprostá blbka. Catwoman byla mimořádně sexy, ale pro příběh téměř postradatelná. Alfréd byl prostě starý dobrý Alfréd. A Batman? Výbornej! Dokonce i Bruce Wayne tu dostal dost prostoru a celkově ta chemie mezi jeho civilní identitou a nočním alteregem fungovala skvěle. Mělo to svoje mouchy? Ano, ale jako celek to bylo super! A to hlavně díky dokonalé kresbě. Marini postupně navozuje atmosféru naprostého šílenství a beznaděje, prostřednictvím mimořádně věrohodně zpracovaného Gothamu. Jeho panoramata jsou dechberoucí a pohled na město z ptačí perspektivy je prostě dokonalý!
