Erast Fandorin, the charming detective of nineteenth-century Russia, confronts two dangerous adversaries in this thrilling narrative. The first, known as "The Jack of Spades," is a cunning swindler who has deceived many, including Fandorin's superior. To apprehend him, Fandorin teams up with his timid new assistant, Anisii Tulipov, employing an array of disguises.
