Set on Christmas Eve, the story follows young Alex's excitement for the holiday and his wish for a puppy. On Christmas Day, he receives a puppy named Zipper, but chaos ensues when Zipper escapes during a visit from grandparents. Alex and his mother embark on a neighborhood adventure to find him, encountering diverse holiday celebrations, including Diwali, Hanukkah, Las Posadas, and Kwanzaa. The tale emphasizes community, friendship, and the realization that despite differences, people share common values, culminating in a joyful Christmas feast.
