V Němém křiku se autorka zaměřuje na téma odlišnosti a vyloučení ze společnosti a ukazuje, jak to dopadá na konkrétní lidi. V tomhle případě jde hlavně o dětské domovy a tělesná omezení. V dalších knihách pak rozvíjí jiné motivy, ale právě tahle citlivá témata jí určitě pomohla k úspěchu. Jak se děj rozjíždí, Marsons ho postupně zamotává a chytře větví tak, že nás při hledání pachatele vede úplně jinam. A na závěr si ještě dovolí jeden nečekaný zvrat, který vás dostane.
