In a luxury spa hotel in the Swiss Alps, octogenarian friends Fred Ballinger and Mick Boyle reflect on their successful lives as a composer and film director, amidst a cast of eccentric guests, including a football legend and a Miss Universe. While Ballinger seeks a peaceful retirement, Boyle is determined to create his last film, hoping it will be his masterpiece. When Ballinger receives an invitation from Buckingham Palace to conduct his famous piece at Prince Philip's birthday celebration and accept a knighthood, he declines for personal reasons. Meanwhile, Boyle's process is interrupted by a visit from Brenda Morel, his leading actress from California, who shares her thoughts on the film in which she is set to star. Complications arise as the marriage of Fred's daughter to Mick's son adds tension to their lives. To move forward, both men must reconcile with their pasts and confront the realities of aging, leading to unexpected outcomes.
